What is ocean?
Waves work differently from rain. Instead of a constant wash you get a slow swell rising and falling around ten times a minute, close to a resting breathing rate. That similarity is the usual explanation for why surf feels settling — an explanation that is more popular than it is proven. This player moves a filter and the volume together in a slow cycle, so each wave arrives a little differently.

Questions
Are ocean sounds good for sleep?
They are popular for winding down, and the slow rise and fall is easy to breathe along with. For masking they are slightly worse than a constant sound, because each trough between waves lets other noises through. If your problem is a noisy street rather than a busy mind, brown noise will do more.
Why do waves sound calming?
The common explanation is that surf cycles at close to a slow resting breath, encouraging you to match it. That is plausible and widely repeated but not firmly established. The less speculative part is the same as for rain: a broadband natural sound carrying no information you need to respond to.
Can I combine ocean with rain?
